My background 30 years experience as an architect and town planner in the public and private sectors. Major projects have included public sector housing and school buildings in London and the New Towns, among them, a development of 300 flats in North Kensington; and a number of community and voluntary sector projects in inner and east London. Teaching Course tutor, lecturer and design tutor to the BSc (Hons) Architecture course, University of East London; and lecturer on Masters courses, including MSc Urban Regeneration, and research degree supervisor(1988-96). Established own teaching organization, NAOS (an Open Network for the Study of Architecture), in 1996. Currently External examiner at the Arts Institute, Bournesmouth and at the London Metropolitan Universoty. Course Director for BA (Hons) Arts, Design and Environment, Central St Martins, London (2000-03). Taught in London for Syracuse University, NY (History through Architecture) and currently teaches at New York University in London (City Planning). Council Member of the London East Research Institute and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of East London. Authorship A number of books on architecture and design, as well as articles, book-chapters and reviews. The Story of Western Architecture (1979, rev.1997 and 2001) has been translated into nine languages. This was followed by Modern Architecture and Design; an alternative history (1982) and by Fantastic Form; architecture and planning today (1992). Contributed to Rising in the East (Butler and Rustin, eds., 1996). Conferences Chairman of Barcelona 95, an urban regeneration conference. Presenter at the UIA Congress (Barcelona, 1996). Recent initiatives Urban Design projects in the Thames Gateway and a major revision of The Story of Western Architecture. |
