The Message Notebook

Despite the astonishing take up of personal computing and mobile technologies in the last 20 years many people over 55 rarely use mobile phones, pdas, email or the Internet in their everyday lives. Complex interfaces led by technology rather than human nature effectively marginalize this post 55 generation from the digital revolution enjoyed by their children.

The ‘Message Notebook’ is a simple way to communicate in a familiar and tangible form. The sender writes a message by hand on a blank page which is scanned automatically when the book is closed. The message is sent via the Internet to the receiver. The Message Notebook is specifically targeted at female audiences of over 55 years old. Its design concept proposes that digital technologies should be designed for simplicity, mobility, personalisation and tangibility.
