THE FIELD at Sainsbury’s

is a year-long installation in a supermarket.

Stories of a single arable field are told through a series of large-scale

scenes built up from everyday products. In-store signage and packaging support each installation, carrying key messages and micro stories. At home, packaging takes on a new life, so that, for example, a plastic water bottle becomes a seed incubator, as children explore the how, when and why of a field of wheat.

Revealing stories over a year takes the pressure off the audience. Hijacking a few minutes in the weekly family shop transforms a routine chore and provides genuine context.

Focussing on the field not the farmer, and reality over romance or

agendas, FIELD is about removing a few boundaries as well as reconsidering the way exhibitions might deliver their content.
