My background BA: Graphic Design (Central Saint Martins, London, 2004) My expertise Graphic design Photography Film My focus Commercial environments My placement Jam Design My CV (pdf) Light Growth The lighting intervention aims to tackle crime and fear of crime in the Shoreditch Triangle, London. The lights illuminate dead space created by shadows cast from existing public lighting. Weeds and plants encroaching on disused areas inspired the form of the design. The lighting “grows” in an organic way, in response to live feeds on crime statistics. Each set of lights is an individualised response to a particular location. The overall scheme introduces several interventions strategically placed around the Shoreditch area to create alternative pedestrian routes and way finding systems. It extends the community’s mental map and the overall legibility of the urban space. The scheme provides a geographical and symbolic definition of the area and has potential to tie in with the Council’s current development of a ten-year vision for the area.
