Woof’s are well off older folks who have money to spend. In their retirement they travel for long periods of time (1-2 months) and enjoy experiencing new cultures and climates. They are exclusive travelers taking advantage of the small planes that proliferate the skies.
The airport experience has changed over the years from one of being herded onto the plane to having a more relaxing time at the airport before their travels. Since woof’s have begun exploring the more extreme climates of the world, they take advantage of the airports acclimatisation facilities now on offer.
The acclimatisation gates are expressive environments that provide an ultra-sensory experience that engulfs the body and the emotional state. The retail experience has been designed around the now exploited understanding that 'When change occurs such as to produce discomfort. People react in ways that rend to restore comfort'.
These departure gates simulate the general atmospheres of the climates you are going to. The environment in the climate gates is climate specific (desert, tropical/ monsoon, polar, outer space). The temperature, air, humidity and general visceral feeling is simulated to provide the feelings you might get when you first step into that climate. The purpose of the climate gates is to subtly acclimatise people to the regions of the world they will be going to.
Instant Desires - the notion of seeing something you want on someone and wanting it for yourself. The shops are gone and performers, experiencing the same climate as you, detail the goods and services that you might need/buy. There is a push for seeing the goods in action and in use. There are no stores but only people who wear/use goods and services or recommend them to you. The retailers have more time with you.
Health and Restaurant
For the Woof’s, Designer Drugs do not take the form of ecstasy but instead take the form of drugs that alter your biological state temporarily for the purposes of travel and acclimatisation.
Drugs allow you to acclimatize your stomach, your reaction to insects and vegetation. The sleep pods acclimatize you to altitude and temperature - the cocoon like structures are air tight and while you are in a sleep state, they can immunise you in a number of ways.
Food retail allows you to sit and view the climate zone and to taste some of the main items that may be on offer for you at your destination. It is based on the climate and the culture you are visiting and the waiters and chefs offer you advice on what might suit your stomach and what you might want to be aware of. You do not get to experience your destination before you get there but you do get to try some food (that is chemically enhanced with stomach relaxers).
