How do you light a borough as rich and diverse as Camden? What stories do you tell? And how much will it cost? These are some of the challenges MA students on Creative Practice for Narrative Environments and Industrial Design are working through together in this industry-sponsored project.

Innovision, the lighting and event design company, have asked Central St Martins to devise novel schemes for the lighting of public spaces. Schemes that reflect the geographical, social and historical dimensions of some of London’s most visited locations.

  Camden transport

Rationale:
Capture the history of the Regent's Canal and regenerate the area by lighting arches under the bridges at night to transform the dark, unapproachable areas.

Proposal: An installation that evokes the past by lighting the scars left by tow ropes at the edge of the bridges-an intersection between the past and the present.

Camden infamy

Rationale: Highlight the infamous past of the Borough of Camden through famous crimes from history.

Proposal: Use the simple skills associated with children’s play, including hand shadows and rough puppets, to tell the crime stories. These larger-than-life images are projected on the streets, toying with scale.
