Sound can differentiate brands, create continuity in a complex environment, evoke history or deliver information. Yet, all too often in the planning or making of environments, sound is not thought about or is considered too late on to be used effectively. In this project, groups research different environments (retail, exhibition, historic and leisure) to devise original sound systems.

  Brockwell Park, South London

Aims:
To increase park usage by experimenting with sound as a way-finder; to take inspiration from the local community aware of its diverse ethnicity and play with the concept of ‘home’.

Proposal:
A main narrative around escapism, with three zones: (i). The Contemplative Zone, which offers an audio portrait of the amazing view of the park; (ii). The Communicative Zone, a collection of interactive, real-time audio installation pieces - offering the local community the chance to interact with and escape London; and (iii). The Introspective Zone, where visitors walk into a controlled cloud and lose complete visual control - guided only by sound to the centre.
