Urban & Community Environments
A collaborative methodology, published in book format
‘In Conversation’ is the conclusion of a research project
investigating ways of improving collaboration between artists
and architects working on the design and development of public
spaces in the urban environment.
Artist / Architect collaboration is a growing practice in the UK
and “In Conversation” provides a chronological overview, looks
at obstacles and opportunities, and draws on interviews with
practitioners to identify key elements in the process. The project
supports an increase in the number and quality of initiatives and
general adoption of this approach.
In Conversation looks at the “soft” aspects of artist / architect
collaboration and takes the view that “process is king”. The
project aims to engage the client in the process and challenge
the traditional view of their role in order to re-establish their
commitment to making our public spaces truly great to be in.
