The Spirit Level was recently built on the ground floor of the Royal Festival Hall to house the activities of Southbank Centre's Learning and Participation department. The space hosts exhibitions, talks, lectures, song, dance, performances and impromptu creative work.
The project produced six design proposals for the new space that will facilitate the work of the in-house team, welcome and communicate the activities and functions of the space to visitors, and embody the participatory philosophy of the organisation.
Students developed their proposals through creative interventions in the space itself, engaging directly with the audience through low tech interactions and performances.
The Spirit Level Project was developed and run in collaboration with Learning and Participation at Southbank Centre.
