Brief
Our brief was to design a ‘base camp’ for a ‘rough luxury’ holiday experience in Larnaca, Cyprus. Participants would experience our design as overnight guests upon both their arrival and departure for their holiday. The specifics of their mid-holiday guest experience on the island were left ambiguous.
We were to the determine details of the base such as specific location, appearance, services, management and marketing.
Our final proposal was an ‘Upmarket Squat’: a hotel that, for 2 separate months a year, moves into a vacant building and provides luxurious portable beds, bathrooms and furniture. The rooms are then rented at premium prices.
Brief
The brief was to come up with a ‘rough luxurious holiday experience’ in Larnaca (Cyprus). Part of this project was the one-week field trip to the location. We came up with an ‘upmarket squat’: a hotel that moves 2 months a year into an empty house, drives in the portable luxurious beds, bathrooms and furniture, and rents the rooms at ridiculously high prices.
