Shibboleth Shechter
My background
I studied architecture at the Architectural Association.
I worked as an architect / urban designer with Arup’s Environmental team (exploring the relationship between landscape, ecology and the urban); and at Colin Buchanan’s (collaborating with transport planners to achieve a better balance between accessibility and people-friendly environments).
I am a qualified public consultation facilitator, and have experience of working with local communities from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
My expertise
Over the last couple of years I have concentrated on my academic career.
At CSM I collaborate with MA Creative Practice for Narrative Environments on live projects, including Speakers Corner and the Glasshouse Community Design. I lead the first year of the Interior and Spatial Design course at Chelsea College of Art, and I played a key role in establishing a new MA in Sustainable Place Making and Urban Design course at Kingston University.
My focus
I have recently completed an educational action research titled “Reflective Mapping, Design Problems and Design Education”, a research paper with MaCPNE staff and students on speakers corner for the 21st century and an ESRC funded research with Kingston University to identify the skills and attributes most useful and effective in ensuring positive stakeholder engagement
I am currently undertaking a two year AHRC funded MA by Research titled ‘The Promise of Landscape Urbanism the Challenge of Suburbia’.
