Cecilie Gravesen
My background
Cecilie Gravesen is a Visual Artist and Curator. She graduated in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art; in Curating Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art and in Literature from Copenhagen University. She works as en exhibiting artist, as a curator of exhibitions, commissioning and writing, and has been involved in various academic think-tanks and conferences.
My expertise
Cecilie’s artwork of installation and film question the transmission of history and memory. Her ongoing art project ‘The Imbued Collection’ (for which Cecilie has been Artist Observer with University College London, Department for Archaeology), looks at the meeting between spirited ethnographic objects, their people, and the museum conservators that deal with them, and enquires about how we deal with our colonial heritage.
My focus
Cecilie’s artwork and curatorial projects offer a critical reflection on how objects and images engage in a narrative environment. Her focus is on artist film and its relation to the interpretation of heritage, and on how the historical museum can engage with its audiences through contemporary art. Positions include: Curator of artist film commissions for The Danish Film Institute and archive, and Line Producer for the UK artist film commissioning agency Film and Video Umbrella.
