Joel Gethin Lewis
First Year Interaction Design Tutor

Joel is an interaction designer and artist.

 

He received a BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science from Imperial in 2001, before completing an MA in Interaction Design from Royal College of Art in 2003. He subsequently worked at Fabrica, Benetton’s communication research centre before returning to London in 2005 to work as the interaction designer at UnitedVisualArtists. As well as touring with the likes of U2 and Massive Attack he collaborated on installation works such as Monolith, Volume and Hereafter.

 

From 2008-2010 he co-founded the interactive collective YesYesNo with Theo Watson and Zachary Lieberman. Also in  2008 he co-founded the craft, design and technology studio Hellicar&Lewis with Pete Hellicar. He ran the studio together with Pete until 2016 with the express aim of building a creative business around Open Source.

 

His current focus is web-based augmented reality and sustainable mesh-networked low-cost computing. Joel is also a visiting tutor for MA Visual Communication at Royal College of Art.
