This December MA Narrative Environments’ Year 1 cohort collaboratively designed and produced the course’s annual narrative party.
We Are The Robots translated the essence of the song The Robots by Kraftwerk (released as part of the band’s 1978 album The Man-Machine) into a party format. Students responded to the cultural context and relations of robots today, and challenged traditional party composition, thinking beyond the music itself, to consider phonopsie (or ‘sound seeing’), exploring how narrative environments can enhance and embody music’s deeper meanings.
The event brought together friends of the course, current and prospective students and alumni for an evening of multi-sensory performance and interactive installations paired with specially-mixed Paranoid Android cocktails.
Thank you to all our Year 1 student teams, tutors Claire Healy, Bethany Rigby and visiting lecturer Stan Vrebos of Temporary Pleasure; and to the CSM Events and Hospitality teams, the Learning Technology Support team and to Lizzie Vickery and our Spatial Practices staff for supporting the event production.
